Big data strategy

ORGANISE YOUR DATA

Big data is more than just having access to your customers’ purchasing habits. It entails understanding and insight by combining data from your own company with all external data that is relevant for your business. The result: real business intelligence!

Data collection | meaning

Introduction

The term “Big Data” does not always sit well with consumers. But in fact it is nothing more than the collection of all available data on or around a certain topic. Only if this data is collated and when logical conclusions are drawn based on it, it develops meaning.

Carlo Klaasse – E-commerce Manager Puma

“Tauros supports us with the integration of our ERP system towards our web shops, the construction of the shops, email marketing and performance improvements.”

Draw the right conclusion

The benefits of big data

At the end of the day proper analysis of large amounts of data provides benefits for everybody. For the consumer it means tailored services at all levels; for example in the provision of care, education and – indeed – products and services.

For you as an entrepreneur it means more insight in the behaviour and preferences of your customers, allowing you to better cater to the actual demands of your customer.

But that is not the only benefit. With the right tools you can draw conclusions from your own company data as well. Then you will not decide based on a feeling, but on hard data. It will help you to quicker recognise and eliminate unprofitable activities. You will be able to deal with your budgets more sensibly and efficiently, and a profitable business will emerge. Only then you are actually using big data strategy.

Full unburdening

Big data and the challenge for large businesses

Only correct analysis of the correct data provides strategic insights. First of all this requires that your company data are of the highest quality; otherwise it will become “garbage in, garbage out”. But in order to properly capitalise on the benefits of big data, you will have to structure the data flows: a proper Big Data strategy starts with organising your data. Only when this is properly taken care of, will you be able to make a clear analysis.

This, however, is the main challenge for many large businesses. Over the years different systems have been implemented and various stand-alone applications – all with their own unique database – have grown together almost organically. How can you structure this? How do you make these systems communicate with each other? Which analysis tools will you use? Which e-commerce system fits in best? How does it relate to the rest of your IT-architecture? Tauros has the answers to these questions.

Big data strategy also entails thinking about IT-problems relating to the available capacity. Can large quantities of data from different systems be properly processed mutually? For example: Magento is not an ERP system. Large international companies use heavy SAP systems with various price calculations that produces large amounts of data. This cannot just flow into a web-shop directly.

To process these large quantities of data a so-called middle-layer solution (ETL-process) should be developed that makes sure that all runs well and smooth. We have a lot of experience with this as well and are happy to assist you with it.
